Who We Are
In 1993, local Thunder Bay organizations interested in breast health came together to form the Thunder Bay Breast Health Coalition. The mission of the Coalition has been to increase breast health awareness among health care professionals and women of all ages. Over the past 10 years we have worked with women in Northwestern Ontario to achieve that goal. Funding from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the Ontario Breast Cancer Information Exchange Partnership and Willow, has allowed us to produce excellent resources for women.
Member organizations of the Coalition include:
Some of our most successful projects have included seven Breast Cancer Forums and Women's Health Fairs, and the Northwestern Ontario Tour of the "Bosom Buddies" musical drama that educates, entertains and empowers women to take responsibility of their own breast health. We also partnered with the Ontario Women's Health Network to produce and conduct Menopause and Breast Health workshops throughout the region. Pamphlets we have produced include: "If You Have A Breast Lump", and most recently, the highly sought after pamphlet on BSE "How To Check Your Breasts For Health" - over 100,000 pamphlets have been distributed to date.
The concept for this website came from the BSE pamphlet. The pamphlet used mostly pictures to teach women how to check their breasts. The tremendous success of the BSE pamphlet prompted the Coalition to translate it into French. Now, with the production of this website, this innovative learning tool is available to women around the globe.
